Video transcript:

So, we are now inside the building that we saw from the secret garden. This might be one of the smallest projects I’ve ever worked on. We think of it as small but mighty.

So, on this main floor we have family room space, we have a dining table that can seat eight people, and we have a totally functional kitchen. When we approached the architecture for this project we really took inspiration from the owner’s house, which is directly west of us. And what you’ll probably notice is the roof that is on this building and also on the garage is a hip roof.

I rarely do hip roofs but we wanted to make sure that these properties were kind of talking to one another. So, that hip roof is also expressed inside the building. It’s what you see here on this end and it was important for us to have this building feel transparent in the landscape.

I’m not sure I’ve ever done this many windows in a space that’s so small. It is wall-to-wall window, wall-to-wall door. Another thing that we really, really like to do is to bring the outside in. So not only are we bringing in with light and views but we would also like to take inspiration from the materials on the outside of the building and have them be on the inside of the building. So, this Chicago common brick that you see here is what the exterior of the building is clad in. And in all of the renderings that we did for this we had this painted. And then it got installed and we all stood here and we were like there’s no way we’re painting this fireplace.
