Wilmette Sanctuary Home – Chicago Common Brick

We selected Chicago Common brick to make that subtle tie-in between the adjacent house and this property as well as it being a wonderful foil for the black windows, black light fixtures and dark black standing seam roof. Take a tour with  Amy Berka, SSDB Lead Architect. See the project description and stunning library of photos.

Part of the reason why we selected this Common brick is that we wanted to again make that subtle tie-in between the adjacent house and this property. The adjacent house is a beautiful, historic Georgian. It has a gorgeous front porch which has Chicago Common brick surrounding it.

Something that I love about using this Chicago Common brick on this project is that just like with all the windows, when you’re inside the walls sort of go away, becomes transparent. Out here this is such a natural material. It’s so nondescript. It’s so, so subtle that the building almost hides a little bit within the gardens by choosing what I think is a material that’s just so neutral.

I also think it’s a wonderful foil for the fact that we have black windows and black light fixtures. We have a very dark black standing seam roof. It just is the perfect base to accept that dark punch of color in those small places that we have it.
