Our clients are interested in aging in place, staying in their home for the long term, which means we added a lot of amenities to the house that will make it easier for them to get around as they come into it. The most important element is an elevator that services all three floors of the house so that they can easily access the basement, first floor, and second floor. Their primary suite was built on the first floor, so all of their everyday living is on the first level. Some of the other things that we did for aging in place would include a full-threshold shower, so that if a wheelchair is needed, it can roll right in. We also included wider hallways. Doorways to some of the outdoor spaces have just a flat threshold, so it’s really easy. There’s not a step down. Rather than a traditional fold-down oven where you have to reach across a hot door and get out a hot tray, this opens on the side, so you can easily walk up to your hot food and take it out. Great, nice hallways, wide doorway openings for easy accessibility as our clients age. And this beautiful hallway, you can see right down to our sitting area of our primary suite with beautiful views out to the yard. One of the most important things about aging in general and aging in place is staying fit and healthy. Our clients have chosen to implement an endless pool in their sunroom so that they can exercise from home. Also, it’s attractive for future grandchildren to have a pool. Get them to come to the house more often.
