I’m Beth DeBaker, Scott Simpson Design Build and architect on this project. When we started the design process, we looked at several different elevation designs and what was really appealing to the client was the low-pitched roofs and big open porches and really the arts and crafts or craftsman details of the house. A craftsman-style home is indicated in large part by low roofs, large overhangs, and details built by hand. We used a lot of woodwork details on the house, both on the interior and the exterior. For example, we have interesting railing patterns here. Keeping with the craftsman feel of the house. We custom-designed the bookcases and the surround of the mantel. We have a unique custom tile that the clients found from a Pennsylvania tile maker. We have a little diamond motif, and you’ll see those in various parts of the design. We have them on the fireplace over here where we have – on these columns, the whole diamond motif both high and low.

If you come this way, you’ll see that we have, again, in our foyer, where we did these big heavy beams with iron bolts, and the bolts have a diamond head on the bolts. And then even then, on the outside, if you come out here, on the front porch, you’ll see again that we have the diamond motif on those columns. So really that craftsman inspiration is both an architectural style but also truly how the house is being built. We really enjoyed working on this arts and crafts style house with our clients. I think they’re very happy. We’re very happy with how it turned out. I think it’s going to be great for them for years to come.
