Excellence in Masonry Award Winner
SSDB is honored to receive the Masonry Advisory Council Award in the Residential Category for our Wilmette Modern Sanctuary House, designed by Lead Architect, Amy Berka.
The house was designed as a private wellness retreat for the homeowners, creating a modern companion to their 100-year-old Georgian residence next door. At just 805 square feet, the glass pavilion feels light and contemporary while Chicago Common brick grounds the structure and creates a thoughtful connection to the neighboring historic home and surrounding landscape.
We carried the brick throughout the project, from the exterior walls and herringbone pavers to the interior fireplace and lower-level spa, creating a sense of continuity from garden to living space. The exposed masonry also became a beautiful focal point, celebrating the warmth, texture, and natural character of the material.
The result? A modern sanctuary that feels quietly rooted in its Wilmette setting. View more of this home here!
