Highland Park New Construction Arches Trim

So, in a lot of the openings on the first floor, we have these elliptical arches that we had talked about previously, and they’re all custom to the size that each opening is. So, you can see how this piece of casing is straight all the way down, but then here you can see a few seams, and a seam in the middle, and another seam here. So, if you were to flip this over, you could actually see where all those pieces are finger-jointed together, and this comes out as one full piece that’s already pieced together, but made of multiple pieces at the millworking shop.

So, with each arch, this arch is obviously much larger. We have different ways that they’ve made it, so this piece here you can see is almost probably two feet long, and then we have another piece section here, and another straight piece of casing as we go. The front door and mudroom door are in there, custom mahogany doors, again in the elliptical shape.

We do not have glass yet, but they will install that in the field. Again, here we’ll have another custom casing that’s actually made to the ellipse of the door. So, this was field measured from the jam here. Mike, our carpenter, made a template for us. It’s at the shop now, so this piece of trim is made exactly the way that this door has been installed.

At the mudroom, kind of the same idea as the front door, custom mahogany door, again no glass yet. This will be done in the field. And another custom arch. We’ve actually got an extension jam here that’ll also be elliptical and custom, because this falls a little bit inside the door jam here, so we’ll have to bring this out a little bit so that we can get the casing to match. But again, this was field measured from a template that we made off of this door, and it’s custom to this door and this door only.
