Welcome back to the Evanston Mansion Renovation Series. I am standing in the laundry room. The last time we were here, you could look through and see the bathroom.
We’ve now dry-walled. This amazing cabinetry that we’re keeping is protected. We’re going to also keep this cabinetry here, which is a little bit new.
We did some demo before we even started design because there was a big plaster chase. And in it was one vent pipe. And we didn’t exactly know where it was going or if we could move it. And our plumber, who is a magician, was able to actually get this in this wall. And that has allowed us to, from our original design, have a washer-dryer. There’s a temporary sink here now, but in reality, there’ll be a real sink.
In the original designs, we didn’t have space for a sink. As an architect and being part of design-build, to be able to make these decisions on the fly and have subcontractors who are like, “Hey, do you want me to move that for you?” Yes, please and thank you. It makes such a huge difference.
I’m standing in the bathroom that, as you recall from previous videos – it had a weird tub, all kinds of crazy tile. It had sconces on the slope of the ceiling. As you can see, all of that tile is gone. We’re installing beautiful new tile here in the floor. And something that was important to the owner was to get rid of that tub and in place put a shower, which is what you see behind me.
This bathroom was so, so big before. This is a new wall that we expanded this way to give more room into our laundry room. And as you can see from the space, the bathroom hasn’t been compromised at all.
If you’ve missed any episodes of this incredible journey, go back and watch from the beginning.
