Our design-build process, though it follows a series of steps designed for success, isn’t the same for every client. Instead, it is malleable and adaptable to a client’s needs, wants, and lifestyle. We are passionate about your voice and vision; because what we do isn’t ultimately for us, it’s for you and your family to enjoy.
In order for a client’s vision to be a guiding force for our design build process, collaboration is our best friend. As an integrated design-build team, our interconnectedness allows your vision to resonate through all parts of the creative design and build process seamlessly, from planning to move-in.
Communicating Your Vision | Creative Design and Build Process
Our process begins with an in-depth team meeting, where we encourage clients to share their inspirations, preferences and specific needs. Our clients often come prepared with visual inspiration, some of our favorite sources being Pinterest and Houzz. These sites offer vast libraries of design ideas and inspiration, giving clients the option to browse through countless images and concepts, refining their vision and discovering new possibilities.
When clients show us Pinterest boards that resonate with their preferences, we are able to better understand their overall aesthetic and functional taste, giving us the ability to design for them in a direction unique to their vision.
We encourage clients to view our Pinterest boards and projects on Houzz or our website to gather ideas, find inspiration and ask questions about our experience.
Client-Firm Collaborative Relationships
Our tight-knit firm is one of the aspects of SSDB that results in the incredible client-firm relationships we cherish. When you work with us, you’ll be working directly with our partners: Scott, TK, Amy, and Kathleen. You’ll get to know our crew and we’ll get to know yours throughout the process, from initial meeting to move-in. Our team is accessible and authentic – we’re here for you. A Testament to our Creative Design and Build Process
To get a better understanding of our collaborative process and the effect that it has on our clients, we’d love to share some thoughts from our incredible Director of Sales and Project Coordination, Paige Wenk. Though she is an integral part of our team now, she began her SSDB journey as a client! Here is her perspective as someone who has been on both sides of the process:

Having answered yes myself to many of these questions 10 years ago, my husband and I were intrigued by the design + build process and began our journey. After interviewing many architects and builders in the Chicagoland area, we selected the SSDB team, whom I can confidently say defines the dream team. The transparency, creativity, gratitude and joy we shared with the team proved to us how amazing designing and building a custom home can be. The journey was something I want every one of our clients to experience as well. Patience, commitment and honesty should be at the forefront of the process which will in turn create the most rewarding and beautiful journey. A true testament to my experience with SSDB was when I knew I wanted to work for the firm. I wanted to be a part of this “dream” team.
There is no doubt it is expensive to build, but as we like to say you can’t always put a price on happiness, which is what our homes truly bring our clients.”
