Welcome back to the Evanston Mansion Renovation Series, where we are now in the demolition phase. Humongous transformation. You’ll probably remember this room was orange and green, and we’ve done a few things, but the biggest, I think, impact that we’ve done is we’ve painted.

We have walls and angled ceilings and flat ceilings, and we talked about this before, where do you start one color and where do you stop the next? So we took the approach here to just whitewash everything. Trim the walls, the ceilings, the soffits are all painted Benjamin Moore White Dove OC-17, as everyone knows, my favorite white, and it really cleans everything up. You might remember last time we had a brass and green light fixture here. We’ve replaced all the decorative light fixtures on this floor.

We’ve also gone ahead and cleared off all of the applied panel molding that was on this wall, and we’ve also gone ahead and changed the HVAC unit. It’s on right now. It’s super cool in here, and it’s very, very quiet.

You can see the green plaid carpet is still here. We’ve ordered a new carpet that’s going to go in to replace it, and once it’s in, we’ll get it installed.

It’s important to us to have their own floor that they’re going to access through their own clean stairway, because the house has two staircases. So this is going to be the space where they live and will be comfortable throughout construction.

If you’ve missed any episodes of this incredible journey, go back and watch from the beginning.
