Daeshawn Hemphill, Construction Assistant
Growing up I always had a strong passion for sports, and I loved football and basketball more than anything in the world. When I was just 5 years old, I started playing organized ball and as the years went on, I realized that playing ball was what I loved and all I wanted to do for the rest of my life. So, I played all the way up until I graduated high school, and I enjoyed every moment of it, all the practices during the week, the local and out of state tournaments on the weekends, and the best of all… playing on Friday nights. But as we all know, athletes can’t play ball forever and unfortunately it was that time for me due to health reasons. At that time, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do with myself, but I knew I was good with my hands and I wasn’t afraid to get a little dirty, so I started doing a bunch of research on construction and that was when I stumbled upon Evanston Rebuilders. Still with very little knowledge about construction, I took a leap of faith and applied to join their pre apprenticeship program where I would go on to learn about all the ins and outs of general construction.
New Career in New Construction
After completing the Evanston Rebuilders program, I would then be referred to the partners at SSDB by the rebuilding exchange staff and now I’m here! I can honestly say that taking that leap of faith was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made because now I’m a part of this amazing family here at Scott Simpson Design + Build and I look forward to continuing growing and building with the team!
